A Fixed Beam is a beam whose end supports are such that the end slopes remain zero or unaltered.
When simply supported beam bends slopes at the ends are generated, if these slopes has to be prevented it is required to apply end couples of certain magnitude in appropriate order. When the ends of the beam are built in than end moments are automatically generated and such moments are known as FIXED END MOMENTS. If end support does not provide sufficient reacting or restraining moment, some amount of slope or rotations will be produced at that support, but is there is absolute fixity at support than slope or rotation can be prevented.
