Transportation Engineering is One of the Division of Civil Engineering where in the technology and scientific principles are applied to planning, Design, Operation and Management of all the facilities for all the modes of transportation such as Water, Air and Land. It also deals in providing a safe, rapid, comfortable, Eco friendly, convenient and economical movement of people as well as goods. Transportation Engineering helps in Development of Political, Culture, Rural Areas, Social and Economic Development of the Country. Not only the Development but also Employment Opportunities can be enhanced with provision of best Transportation facility.
Different modes of Transportation in Civil Engineering Includes
- Roadways:Transportation is on Land. This in the only mode which gives maximum services to One and all and provides door to door service to all the needy people.
- Railways:These are Steel Tracks laid on the ground over which the train moves. Railways have been used for long as well as for short distances. For Longer distances, these are more effective and advantageous than Highways.
- Airways:Air Crafts and Helicopters are used in Airways. This is the fastest system of Transportation and also saves time of the passengers.
- Water Ways:The transportation by water is the slowest among the four Modes. This mode uses Oceans, Rivers, Canals and Lakes for the movement of Boats and Ships.
In connection with Transportation Engineering, the Transportation Engineers can play important role in review the effect of Urban Development on Traffic Systems, Stimulate traffic in an intersection to make sure that traffic movement is smooth and safe. Transportation Engineer is not only important in the Infrastructure and Individual Units (Busses, Railcars, Cars, and Trucks etc.) but also the User, which is the major aspect of Transportation Engineering.
